Merry Christmas Everybody

This year my whole family was in town for Christmas.  I can't remember the last time we were all together.  It was a lot of fun spending Christmas eve together.  We spent the day at Grandma Johnson's house visiting and eating.  We went out in the early evening to take pictures.  I wish I would have got a nice picture of all of the grand kids together.  My mom now has 10 grand kids.  9 boys and 1 girl.  I would have said that taking pictures was realativly painless, except Quade managed to walk into a cactus.  His whole leg was covered in needels.  Uncle Chafin was there to save the day.

It was nice for the kids to have the opportunity to get to know each other a little better.  My only complaint was that the time was too short.

My Sister's, Amy, family came down from Idaho.  Amy and her husband Blake have four handome boys.

Chafin traveled the farthest.  He brought his family from Texas.  He is in the Army Special Forces.  Any tiem we get to spend with them in always exciting.  The boys love to play Big Monkey (Chafin is the big monkey), and airsoft war with their uncle.

Dace feels like Uncle Quincy is his own personal jungle gym.  He is big, strong, and a lot of fun to be around.
After pictures we went back to Grandma's for more food and fun.  The house was full of rambunctious boys.

We managed to wrangle them all together for a quick pic.  It was a lot of work to get them all to hold still for a seconed.
We had drawn names and it was exciting to see what had been picked out for each other.

When things started to wind down we scooped up our kids and took them home to wait for Santa.  Dace fell asleep on the way home.  We had to wake him up for the kids favorite tradition.  P.J. the elf never fails.  He arrived just in time for bed.  The kids all got a new set of jammies.  After everyone was bathed, and cozied up in their new P.J.s, we all snuggled together on the couch for a movie.  I don't remember what we watched.  I do remember the feeling of love that engulfed the room.  When we could keep our eyes open no longer, we went to bed and waited for the arrival of the big guy.

Christmas fell on a Sunday this year.  We planned on getting up and looking through stockings.  Then we were going to go to church, and open the rest of Christmas afterwards.  Things did not work out that way.  The kids were up before 5 am, waiting on the stairs.  They could not wait any longer.  We gave the okay, and youngest to oldest we took in Christmas.

Everyone was thoroughly spoiled.  Dace got everything he needed to play Thor, Lincoln Logs, Bey-Blades, a raccoon hat, and don't forget the Oreo's.  Taya also received everything on her list, a pink scooter, a camera, and hunting gear.  Reese was completely spoiled.  He got an i-Pod touch, and an airsoft gun.  Quade has long waited for a ripstick, and this was his year.

We were able to get things cleaned up in time to make it to church and enjoy a very thoughtful service.  It really topped off the celebration.  It is my wish that all our loved ones had as enjoyable holiday as ours.

Last Minute Updates

The end of the year is rapidly approaching.  Before I post about Christmas, I thought I would take the time to do a little update on everyone.

QUADE:  Quade was chosen as a student in excellence for English this month.  He is a super good student and always puts 100% into every thing he does.  He has managed to keep a 4.0 all year.  He plays the drum set for the high school jazz band, and is loving it.  His football and baseball teams both took home championships.

REESE:  Reese is a very talented artist.  Drawing comes very natural to him, and his imagination has no limits.  He seem to always impress me with the things that he can do.  He is learning to play the cello, and plays percussion in the 6th grade band.

TAYA:  Taya went  on her first hunt this month.  She absolutely loved it!  She shot her first pheasant in the fanny.  She continues to dance, and is turning into quite a lovely young lady.

DACE:  Dace is becoming quite a good reader.  He is picking it up very quickly.  He also has a knack for numbers.  He is currently working on 2nd grade level math at school.

ROYD:  Royd is working his way to becoming Dr. Darrington.  He is doing very well in, and I think enjoying, his doctorate program at BYU.  He will be finished in about 2 years.

NATALIE:  I am staying busy at work and home.  In January, I will be starting my masters classes, and I am very nervous about how I am going to balance it all.  I will also be working  for the Utah State Office of Education.  I will be going around the state teaching how to teach math.  I hope to also keep learning the art of photography.

SUPRISE! We Have a Guest

This morning started out being a wonderful Saturday morning.  The sun was shining and I was doing my best to sleep in.  Royd had left for his annual birthday hunt, and I had nothing planned for the day.  I was laying in bed trying to figure out my plan of attack.  I was thinking of going to work-out, then decided I better get a jump start on house cleaning.  My bathroom was on top of the list.
I sauntered into he toilet room for the morning ritual.  I looked into the toilet and saw some strange leftovers from he person who who went before me.  They were small and curious.  I didn't give much other thought to it.  I sat down and did my business.  I stood, reached over, and flushed.  Then from under the lip of the seat jumped a mouse!  Spiders, bug, snakes, they don't bother me. Rodents, on the other hand, creep me out.  I screamed hysterically and ran out of the room.  Reese and Quade were in my room and were thoroughly enjoying the show.  Their laughter drowned out my screams (I am sure I was quite a sight).
I called Royd and explained to him what had happened, adrenaline rushing my words.  He told me to make sure it was flushed down the toilet, and to flush several more times to make sure it was down.  I sent Quade into look.  He came back saying the coast was clear.  So, I went to look but still could not go alone, so I pushed Reese out in front of me.  I made him look.  He said he saw a tail, but I thought he was trying to scare me even more.  Quade said he saw it too.  I still thought they were trying to take advantage of the state I was in.  I demanded they lift the seat.  Quade flipped it up, and out jumped a half drowned rodent.  I screamed even louder this time and ran to the other end of the house.
Grandma Darrington has having a hard time figuring out what was going on.  She heard the commotion, but thought we were super excited about something because of the laughter that accompanied my fear.  I informed her of what had happen and she went to get a broom.
I called Royd again, this time a little more hysterical (if that is even possible).  His instructions were to place towel  under the other doors in the bathroom, so the mouse could not go anywhere.  Then send Reese in with a broom, plunger, anything.  He also said to get Millie and lock her in with the mouse for 30 minutes.  While I was getting the instructions, I shouted to Quade to get the towel.
I was telling the boys they were going to have to take care of this, I just couldn't do it.  They proved to be pretty much worthless.  Neither one of them were brave enough to handle the situation.  I didn't know what I was going to do.  Had it been a snake or a spider, I would have had no problem.
Meanwhile Grandma was preparing for battle.  She put rubber bands on her pant legs (I assume to keep the mouse out), and armed herself with a broom.  She shut the doors of the bathroom, and got to work.  We could hear a few bangs.  When she exited the bathroom we knew she had been successful.  The mouse had been successfully flushed down the toilet.  Thank goodness we had Grandma to save the day.
I think I am going to have a hard time cleaning my bathroom today, and nightmares all night.  I keep thinking how close I was to the mouse when I had used the bathroom.  It sends chills down my spine.  I have learned my lesson.  Moral of the story: If there are leftovers in the toilet, no matter how small, flush first.  You never know the person that left them may still be there.  The other thing I have learnd is, WE NEED A CAT!

My Baby Boy

14 years ago today my life changed. I became a mother. He was two weeks overdue, and we couldn't wait a day longer.  He was a 9 pound 7 ounce early Christmas present.  Quade Austin Darrington is now officially a young man.  I am so proud to be his mother.  He is a 4.0 student, involved in all sorts of athletics, an Eagle Scout, an just an all around good boy.  I love you Quade!

Oh Christmas Tree

I have been having a hard time getting into the Christmas spirit this year.  I usually have my Christmas tree up and lit before the end of Thanksgiving Day.  This year it has taken a little longer, but it is finally up and glowing.  I don't mean to be a bah humbug.  I really do love the Christmas season.  It is just that this year has gone by so rapidly.  It would be really nice if it would so down just a little bit.  My kids are growing up so fast.  I wish we could just pause the game for a little while and enjoy where we are at.  Best wishes to all!

Thanksgiving

Once again we invited a bunch of family over for Thanksgiving.  I was so thankful for my house!  Everyone was comfortable (at least that's what they told me), and we all had a good time.  Bud, MaLawna, Eric, Ladawna, Jeremy, all of the Gubes, Christian, Toryen, Brandon, all of Richards family, Rob & girlfriend, Tyson, Miranda, and Grandma (I hope I didn't leave anyone out) all joined us for a feast.  As always, the food was terrific, but the company was better.  The big boys (Jed, Rob, Royd, Eric, Richard, Rob) played basketball while waiting for the annual football game to start.  It was quite an entertaining pre-game show.  The family football game was super fun too.  It was fun to see some of the little cousins becoming big cousins, and some of the big cousins are now the old men.  Funny how time flies.  The next day most everyone went home early.  Richards family stayed and we did a little skeet shooting, and a lot of just laying around.  Hope all had as much fun on Thanksgiving as we did.

Glad Tidings

Here is a sneak peak at this years Christmas card.  Our hope is that all have a wonderful Christmas season.  I usually have a huge long post about the ordeal of designing and picking a Christmas card.  I must be growing up a little.  This year there was no drama!  It didn't take long to get this one ordered.  I know it is not perfect, but I am okay with that.

Another Milestone

Dace has lost his first tooth!  Just another reminder that my baby is not a baby.  I wonder how long I can keep him a little boy.

Watch Out Mannings Here Come the Darringtons

Football season was a lot of fun this year.  We had two boys in tackle football.  It was Quade's last year in the leauge (can you believe he will be a freshman next year), and Reese's first year.
Quades team ended up taking the championship in the 8th grade league.  They have a lot of talent on their team.  Quade was able to play reciever, deep snap, and corner back.
Reese's team didn't do so well, but Reese is an awesome football player.  I think he has really found his calling.  A lot of people complemented us on what a good player he is.  He was able to play defensive end, full back, line backer, and quarteback.  He is going to be fun to watch.
