It was getting dark when wee left the park. We had no idea where we were going to stay the night. We planned on visiting with Richard and Julie near Lake Tahoe. I took a look at the map on the navigation system. I found a road the according to the key was about 50 miles, ending in Redding California. We decided to take that route, and in about an hour be sleeping in a hotel on Redding. The map did not take into consideration the ups and downs of the road. It was dark the road was winding up and down, uncertain cliffs on either side. It felt like we were in the Ozarks of California. The 50 miles ended up being 150 miles at 30 miles per hour. 5 hours later we reached Redding only to find no vacancy at the hotels. We finally found one that would let us a room. After some rest we headed to Rich and Julie's stopping to look at the sites in Lake Tahoe. We spent the day with them, and headed home the next morning. We took the loneliest highway through the deserts of Nevada (We were starving. We were completly out of food and water. We did find a gas station and bought a $7 box of Chicken in a Biscuits.) We made it home an hour faster than we were told it would take. The last highlight was the comfort of sleeping in our own beds.

Summer Road Trip: The Final Installment (It's About Time)
After a short nap in the car we were ready for Redwood Forest. It was breath taking. I had heard the the trees were unbelievably tall, but until you see them you have no idea of what they are like. It was like stepping back in time. I half expected dinosaurs to be grazing around the corner. They were unlike anything I had ever seen. Everyone was in awe.

It is had to comprehend how big these massive trees are. Pictures and word can't describe their massive beauty. The picture below is at the bottom of a tree that we could not see the top of.
I told the kids they were on a mission to find their mom a giant pine cone. We searched and searched with no luck. I had so been looking forward to a giant pine cone (don't feel too sorry for me, LaDawna hooked me up with one I could pretend I got on my trip - thanks Erica.)
The root systems are all connected. The tree Reese is standing under had some exposed roots. That is a very small root he is holding onto.
Look really close at the bottom of that tree. You may be able to make out our family and car. Royd is wearing red if that helps.

I Love You This Much
Dace and I have a little game we play.
One of us will start by saying “I love you.”
The other will say “I love you more.”
It will be countered by “I love you the most.”
Then the winner of the game will say “That is impossible, because no one can love more than I love you!”
Or, we may play the game with numbers.
“I love you 47.”
“I love you 2,457.”
“I love you one million trillion bazillion.”
Saturday Dace started the game by saying “Mom, I love you, and no one can pass me. Because, I love you the very last number.”
Doesn't he understand that is impossible? Because no one can love more than I love him.
