Summer Road Trip Part 2: We Take a Detour

After we left my sisters house we drove about 5 hours to Twin Falls. We stopped at a Target to get a blanket for me (Royd likes the air on full blast, and I was freezing.) The clerk informed us we were only a couple of miles away from the the falls. We took a quick detour to the falls. Totally worth it. The pictures don't do it justice. It was super cool. On the way back to the freeway we ran into the temple. Royd was not about to stop, so I snapped a few pics out the window.

Then we were off to Boise. The map said we had another 5 hours to Salem, so we stopped and got a hotel room. We went to dinner at Tucanos Brazilian Grill. It was fun to watch the kids eyes as the servers kept coming with more and more meat. By the time we left Dace was an expert with the tongs. I think between Quade and Dace, they ended up eating the equivalence of a whole cow and two chickens. It was a fun experience.

After we left the restaurant Royd and I were getting a little frustrated with the kids. Not one of them had thanked us for dinner (or anything else for that matter.) Royd sat them down and gave them all a lecture on being grateful. After he was finished Dace piped up "I was the only one that was just about to say thank you." Then gave dirty looks to the other kids.

After dinner we walked around the temple. The next day it was off to Salem.

Reese's Face Says It All

P.S. We totally embarased Quade. We didn't have enough clothes so Royd stopped at Areopostale and baought us all t-shirts that were on sale. All of us looked like we were trying to match each other. A walking advertisement. 12 year old boys think that's so un-cool. I liked it just because it made Quade so uncomfortable. Love to watch'em squirm.

Summer Road Trip Part 1

I have been trying to decide how and what I am going to post, about our latest trek. I have too many pictures and stories for just one post. So, I have decided to post in installments. I hope this will be less confusing to readers, and for myself. So, here it goes.

This summer Royd and I had a conference in Salem, Oregon. We have never been to that part of the country so we loaded up the family for what turned out to be a 3,000 mile road trip.

The boys left first hitching a ride with some cool aunts (LaDawna, Dendra, Marvene, Maridee, and Malawna.) It was more fun than a Minni van can hold. They met up with my sister Amy in Salt Lake. Amy said that she felt sorry for the boys because his other aunts looked like so much fun, and now they were stuck with her. They trekked further north to Cub River, Idaho. They worked and played with cousins they only get to see a few times a year. Reese wishes he could live in Cub River, because he pretty sure he would never have to wear shoes.

The boys were able to work at a family restaraunt The Deercliff Inn. My grandfather built and opened the Inn with his sister Tyra. My mom's cousin Joy now owns the restaurant. The Boys had tonz of fun. Quade earned about $20 in tips. Reese took his pay in ice cream, soda, and scones.

The rest of us joined the boys in Idaho 3 days later. It is such a beautiful place. But, the most beautiful thing I saw was my new nephew Hollister. He was not so new(5 months.) This was the first time I had seen the cute little monster. So cute! We hated to leave but we needed to get on the road for the conference.

Sweet Revenge

Poor Reese. He hates hair cuts. He would really like to grow his hair out longer, but his mean parents won't let him. He immediately regretted his last hair cut (the Mohawk), because it resulted in having his entire head shaved very short. The kid was so sad that his dad made him a bargain. After the shave he would never have to shave his entire head again, unless he wanted to. He also included in the bargain that Reese could give his dad his next haircut - the reverse Mohawk, also referred to as the hawk-a-moe.

Fast Sunday

Dace: I don't want to eat at church today. The food is too small.

Summer Haircuts

At the beginning of the summer Dace asked to have a Mohawk. Normally this would be out of the question. But, seeing as it was summer, Royd got out the clippers and gave him what he wanted, on the condition it would be completely shaved before church on Sunday. Reese also jumped on the bandwagon. I didn't realise how cute Dace would look with his Mohawk. He loved it so much that when Sunday came Reese was shaved (happily - didn't like it too much), but Dace kept the hawk. I did a old man come over for church. I don't think anyone noticed his unusual do. He was so adorable like my very own live Cupie Doll. It lasted for about a month. The side grew out, so it was time to lose the hawk. The poor boy had tears in his eyes. He loved his hair cut, and so did his mom.

She's A'Cruzin

The other day Taya snuggled up to her dad and asked what she needed to do to get a new bike. Her dad told her the bike she had was fine, she did not need a NEW bike. Later that day we were all laughing while Taya attempted to ride her bike that was "JUST FINE". Her needs were up to her chin, and the ride was a little wobbly due to the front time that had been run over by the car (I never remember running it over - Royd insists it was me.) We then realised she was still riding the same bike she got when she turned 4! Okay Taya does need a new bike. We sat her down and started a savings plan on how she could earn her new bike. At the rate she wasn't going to get a new bike until she turns 21. But being the wonderful (manipulated) daddy he is Royd bought her a new BEACH CRUISER one day while we were in St. George.

She Loves It!

I was a little worried because it wasn't pink, and Taya is such a pink girl. The bike had just enough gold to make it a little bling for the princess. She has been riding the bike all over town. She is such a cutie. You can see her cute little personality as her head sways back and forth. LaDawna is the best aunt ever and has invited Taya to join her on some of her bike rides (LaDawna has a beach cruiser too.) She is one happy (and spoiled) little cruiser.

This is our family's plan. Feel free to bring or eat whatever you want. If you want cook with us, feel free. For lunches and breakfasts we will eat leftovers, or whatever you feel like bringing.

Fri., June 25 - Dutch Oven Potatoes, Hot Dogs and Burgers

Sat., June26 - Chicken and Potatoes

Sun,. June 27 - Cafe Royd - Carne Asada Burritos(or whatever meat you want to bring), lime rice, Black Beans, Pico de gallo

Mon,. June 28 - Zuppa Tuscana - (sausage and potato soup from Olive Garden) - Royd will make enough for everyone if you let him know before Friday the 25th.

Tues., June 29- Friday July 2 - We will decide on the mountain

"Disleeland"

I am afraid that this is going to be another of my "TOO MANY PICTURES" posts, but you can suffer through it. Our family had a terrific time in DISNEYLAND last week. We met up with the Johnson's and had a FABULOUS time. We spent 5, yes 5 days in the happiest place on earth, and loved every minute of it (well almost, if you don't count tired, hungry, whinny, kids and parents, and the loss of a cell phone - Ask Quade about that one.) We really did have a great time. Dace was exactly 40 inches and could go on most of the rides. My favorite part was listening in on Mason & Dace conversations. They are really cute -and smart-kiddos. The big kids spent most of the time running around on their own. The parents and little kiddies started the trip off with what I like to call Royd's Fanatasyland Blitz. We covered Fantasyland in under 30 min. Mason was running as fast as her little legs would take her, trying to keep up with Royd. We made it to everyone's favorites several times. Ultimately the trip was a success!

This poor little girl was trying to get her picture taken and Dace would not leave until I took his picture. After we left he asked "Did that girl get out of my picture?" Sorry bud but I think you were in hers!

Balloon FEST 2010

Our little fam is going camping and to the Balloon Fest this month. We have been getting a lot of questions about what is going on. Everyone and Anyone is invited to come for all or any of the the days. Our plan is to camp from Friday, June 25 - Friday, July 2. I know there are a few families that will be staying until after the 4th. Whatever will fit into you family's plans will be great. We will be camping the the same spot we did last year. For those of you who did not make it last year click HERE for last years post to get directions. As far as food we are going to keep it pretty simple. Just bring food for your family. I may be posting a schedule of the meals we are going to plan on later. Well I hope this answers a few questions. Let me know if you need more info!
